The Corporate Work Study Program is designed to be a mutually beneficial experience for both our corporate partners and the students of Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School. Just ask anyone at St. Vincent’s Jeremiah’s Hope Academy, and they will tell you that working with Holy Family Cristo Rey student Isis Ramirez ('18) makes their jobs not only easier, but also more enjoyable. “Working with Isis has been an absolute joy!” says Jessica Estrada, Director of Mission Integration for the Community Service and Outreach division of St. Vincent’s Health Systems, the largest employer of Holy Family Cristo Rey students. “Her positivity is infectious in the office and we all look forward to the days that she is here.” Registered Nurse Instructor Jalyn Presley agrees, adding “I have been so impressed by Isis’s hard work and desire to learn new things. She always has a smile on her face and brings such joy to those around her. Our office has been blessed to have her as an intern.”
The Corporate Work Study Program trains our students to be assets to professionals in any field, and the work our students do is invaluable to our corporate partners. “[Isis’s] professionalism and demeanor is aligned with our mission, vision and values at St. Vincent’s,” Ms. Estrada says, adding that Isis has been such an asset to their office during her time there that they asked her to continue working for them as a front desk assistant over the summer. “She was (and continues to be) welcoming, helpful, compassionate and thoughtful. She is always willing to try new challenges and assist wherever needed, with a smile… We are grateful for her presence and are a better ministry for the work that she has contributed!”
The work Isis has done at St. Vincent’s has in turn prepared her to succeed in a professional environment after she graduates. Isis reports that her work-study experience has given her the ability to manage her time, multi-task, and always stay alert. “The environment is comfortable to communicate and express myself,” she says. “My supervisors and coworkers show me respect, care, and encourage me to be successful not only at work, but in my personal life and at school.” By participating in the Corporate Work Study Program, Isis has learned valuable skills that will translate to whatever her future holds, and has made lifelong connections and relationships which will give her an edge in her future career. “I already told her that when she graduates college, she would have a job here without question,” says Ms. Estrada.
