I can’t believe I have started my senior year at Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School! When I started my freshman year here, HFCR was just another school of many I had attended. I did not want to be here. I did not care about school, or anything, really.
From the first day at HFCR, things were different. I was accepted by my classmates for the person I am, started new friendships and my attitude slowly changed. I received encouragement from my teachers and the staff, had structure and boundaries that could not be crossed. It was exactly what I needed.
My GPA now averages a 3.75 – that’s a long way from the 2.5 GPA had just three years ago. I have served as a Student Ambassador for 2 years. One of the coolest things we do at HFCR is work one day a week in corporate Birmingham. I am in my fourth year of working at UAB Health Services and have learned how much I enjoy working on computers. When I graduate, I want to attend Samford University, majoring in Computer Technology.
I now have hope and am excited about my future! Without Holy Family Cristo Rey, I wouldn’t go above and beyond academically, would lack work experience, and mostly I would be without hope. Yet, opportunities abound for me because people like you believe in me, support me, encourage me and have opened my eyes to an extraordinary future I didn’t know existed.
Please help support our school and consider adopting a student by making a gift to the Cristo Rey Rising Leaders Fund. This fund is established to give donors a way to address the most pressing needs of our school community. Your investment can be made quickly by going to www.hfcristorey.org and clicking on the Rising Leaders link; or, you may mail a check to Rising Leaders Fund, P. O. Box 8070. Birmingham, AL 35218. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the Rising Leaders of Birmingham! We are blessed by your support.
With a grateful heart,
